While it has been some years since i’ve heard again of Wet Leg, it just turns out they were scouted by NPR’s world-favorite Tiny Desk for a second time -and they may have smashed it.
As you’d expect from their well-known sarcastic selves, Rhian showed up in a awkwardly tight costume and the guys kept it slacker as usual. Recalling the precision of their debut, the band played «CPR», «mangetout» and some other bangers from their latest moisturizer LP.
I know the sound engineers of Tiny Desk are the closest we have to “audio gods” among us, but you’ve got to give it to them: this set was brutal. Rhian’s eclectic vocal range came through perfectly: from an explosive scream to an intimate moan over the phone. Then you can hear those groovy basslines and a crisp snare cutting through the mix in an extremely well-equalized performance. How could they get it wrong?
Even if they haven’t revealed any tour dates yet, I’d suggest you set a reminder to catch them soon. As i discovered in Lolla Chicago three years ago, their show is a thrilling experience.
